DIY Sugar Lip Scrub
I’ve basically stopped buying beauty products, when I started discovering all the artificial, toxic, processed crap cosmetic companies impose on our skin, I started doing more research on how to make my own natural products. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, not whipping up meals, but rather concocting magical beauty potions that won’t expose me to the risk of developing some rare form of skin cancer, or any other cancer for that matter.
Here is a lovely little and uber-easy recipe I came across for a Sugar Lip Scrub. Before I begin, I’d like you to understand that cosmetic companies (even freaking the Body Shop) that claim to be all full of natural ingredients, wada wada wada , mostly use ‘extracts’ of such ingredients and the rest is just fake on top of more fake on top of even more fake products. I could go on for days, but that is a discussion for another day.
- pure coconut oil
- brown sugar
The coconut oil needs to be solid, so if yours is liquid, pop it in the fridge for 10 to 20 minutes. It musn’t be too hard either, as it should be malleable. Mix a tablespoon of coconut oil and one of honey a bowl. I cannot say this enough, coconut is probably the most amazing thing you can put on your hair and skin, and it smells wonderful too. Mix the two until you get a honey-comb consistency, and ensure that all the lumps have disappeared. Now add two teaspoons of brown sugar, this serves as a perfect and non-aggressive skin exfoliant. To finish your little mixture, add a teaspoon of coconut oil and VOILA. you have your own personal lip scrub. You’ll need a lot of this in the winter months. This mixture should last you about 2 weeks.
You can readapt it as a body scrub, it’s just as perfect. If you find it hard to get your hands on such a large quantity of virgin coconut oil, add aquaous cream, it serves as a perfect base for the body scrub.
